Job Summary
The Nurse Practitioner will work as part of a Team at the Mission Bay and Mt Zion locations within the UCSF Department of Radiation Oncology in a multidisciplinary environment working with Radiation Oncologists, Residents, Registered Nurses, Medical Physicists, Radiation Therapists, Dieticians, and Social Workers in collaboration with referring medical oncologists and surgeons.
The NP reports to and is managed by the Administrative Nurse while working under the supervision of Faculty/Attending Providers. The patient populations may vary but will focus primarily on Head & Neck Cancers and will also include melanoma and other nonmelanoma skin cancers, lung cancers, and related cancers such as those of the eye and skull base. The incumbent will provide care to patients including taking histories; conducting physical exams; document findings and actions as indicated; simple surgical procedures within the department and will assist in non-critical OR tasks such as opening/closing the case; and assist with planning of the course of patients’ treatments for adult populations. The NP will perform site-specific patient teaching; prepare patients for simulation; may assist with contouring structures for treatment planning; medicate patients as needed; order medications for symptom relief; assist in managing patients in follow-up; and address quality of life issues not limited to skin/wound care, speech/swallowing, adequate nutritional intake; and psycho-social issues. In addition the NP will answer patient phone calls, emails, My Chart messages, questions and perform other duties as required such as attending tumor boards, participate in department, and medical center committees as needed. Other duties may include developing patient education materials; staff development; training; teaching; outreach; assisting with research; analyzing or collecting data; and assisting other service teams in providing care to patients in the department as needed.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $100.48 - $130.31 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Nurse Practitioner with strong physical assessment, verbal and writing skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in oncology
- Background in radiation oncology
- Expertise in caring for head and neck patients
- AOCNP certification
- Experience in ambulatory care
License/Certification
- California driver’s license (CDL) if required for position.
- Must hold current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work.
- Accepted Certifications for this position: A-GNP-C, ANP-C, FNP-C, GNP-C, AGPCNP-BC, ANP-BC, FNP-BC, GNP-BC, ACNP-BC, AGACNP-BC, ACNPC-AG, ACNPC
- Current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California.
- Complete a BRN recognized graduate master’s degree program as a nurse practitioner.
- Obtain an active and/or transferable DEA license to California and provide evidence by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).
- Submit enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by first clinical day. CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments.
- Hold current AHA BLS.
- Hold current AHA NRP.
- State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice.
- Incumbents with less than 6 months of NP experience will be hired as a Nurse Practitioner 1.
UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
