POSITION DESCRIPTION
The CMA III provides basic care to patients and helps in the maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of the RN/LPN in the clinic setting. The CMA as the ability to maintain regulatory requirements, nursing and office/ clinic policies, procedures, and standards.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Escorts patients to examining rooms, takes detailed medical histories, and determines the reason for the visit.
- Maintains established office/clinic policies and procedures, goals, performance improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards, and protocols.
- Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families per office/clinic standards.
- Provides general aspects of care that meet psychosocial or physical needs or both simultaneously, within the nursing assistant’s scope of practice.
- Meets communication needs of patients.
- Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Finds and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and family.
- Demonstrates performance reflecting the initiative and responsibility expected of a nursing assistant.
- Performs other duties as assigned, within the Medical Assistant’s scope of practice.
- Performs basic patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age.
- Notifies proper licensed personnel when patient complaints.
- Maintains knowledge of operation and maintenance of clinical equipment, drugs, and supplies.
- Demonstrates ability to communicate to the RN or LPN any observed changes in patient status and responses. Maintains awareness of the needs of the pediatric, geriatric, and general patient population.
- Response is proper to the patient in emergencies or physically distressful situations.
- Must have strong oral communication skills (reading, writing, speaking and comprehension).

Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged periods of periods of standing and bending.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Must be a graduate of a recognized Medical Assistant program
- North Dakota (ND) registration as an MAIII through the ND Board of Nursing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification needed within six months of employment.
- Prior experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
- Must complete a background check and drug screening.
