General Purpose of Job:
Works with the Occupational Health Nurse to ensure the health and safety of the employees.
Specific job duties include: Performs and documents vital signs and physical measurements in an age appropriate manner. Performs phlebotomy procedures, performs ancillary testing, immunization administration per standing orders, promotes safety and infection control, calls pharmacy to authorize and order medication, performs clerical duties to include: answering telephones, greeting patients, appointment scheduling, chart preparation and documentation for Driscoll employees, allied health, contractors, travelling nurses, providers, students, and volunteers (referred to as “patient”).

Gives immunizations as necessary to patients following policies
Processes new employees to include drawing blood, Tspot screening, or ordering chest x-rays according to hospital guidelines
Provides necessary back-up support for the occupational health nurse
Provides support for workers’ compensation claims as needed
Follows OSHA guidelines and sets the example for others
Provides back up for orientation as necessary
Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
Schedules appointments, receives money for bills and submits to accounting, keeps x-ray and other medical records, performs secretarial tasks
Keys data into computer to maintain office and patient records
Maintains patient compliance and informs both patient and Occupational Health director when a patient is out of compliance
Assist in running reports as necessary
Orders necessary equipment, supplies, medication as needed for clinic
Maintains temperature records every morning and afternoon for medication refrigerator and freezer in accordance to OSHA guidelines
Schedules hospital wide clinics as needed
Performs and documents vital signs and physical measurements in an age appropriate manner
Documents current immunization accurately into patient’s employee health record
Documents allergy status accurately
Passes competency validations annually
Labels appropriately, all waive testing controls with date opened, and expiration date
Maintains QC monitoring as appropriate
Documents legible and accurately
Performs general lab duties as assigned
Processes lab specimens, performs tests, and reports results as written in applicable policies and procedures
Notifies patient of immunizations that are needed as well as set appointment for second dose in series as needed
Orders correct immunizations based on titer results
Administer immunizations as ordered per protocol based on titer results
Performs only those tests that are authorized by standing orders and require a degree of skill commensurate with the individual’s education, training or experience, and technical abilities
Maintains records that demonstrate that proficiency-testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples
Adheres to laboratory’s quality control policies, documents all control activities
Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct problem immediately or notify nurse in charge
Prepares Tspots for shipment in a timely manner and send out as needed
Daily prepare and restock clinic area supplies for the next day; ensures all needed supplies are in stock
Promotes safety and infection control
Observes and enforces guidelines for infection control in administering care, demonstrating adherence to infection control guidelines
Promotes safety of all patients and personnel
Promotes and ensures safe and effective use of equipment in assigned areas as observed annually by supervisory observation
Assists nursing personnel and performs other duties
Medications/Medication administration
Completes CDC Immunization Education online
Health teaching and counseling as ordered by medical provider
Administer prescribed immunizations
Maintains interaction and communication
Greets patients immediately upon arrival
Maintains unit, department, and hospital communication as observed by supervisor
Attends staff meetings or signs attendance records for reading of minutes and attends all mandatory in-services 100% of the time as evidenced by a review of minutes and Staff Development Records
Notifies licensed staff or supervisor when unable to complete assigned or tasks or responsibilities
Monitors patient flow in clinic to promote customer service
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Has completed a Medical Assistant Program and is certified as a CMA
Knowledge of Medical Terminology
Background in Microsoft Office applications a plus
Successful completion of Driscoll Children's Hospital Orientation, BLS
Current Certification/Registration as Medical AssistantPrior experience as a certified medical assistant preferred
