Job Description
Responsible for working with other healthcare professionals to help treat patients with various injuries, illnesses or disabilities. Monitors patients, administers medications, keeps records, consults with healthcare providers, educates patients and more.
Principal Accountabilities
- Maintains accurate, complete health care records and reports.
- Administers medications to patients and monitors them for side effects and reactions.
- Prescribes assistive medical devices and related treatments.
- Monitors, reports, and records symptoms or changes in patient conditions.
- Assesses, implements, plans, or evaluates patient nursing care plans by working with healthcare team members.
- Records patient vital signs and medical information.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Demonstrates knowledge of the conditions/diagnoses, procedures and equipment encountered in the Endoscopy unit including Gastroenterology, Cardio and Pulmonary. Exhibits knowledge of and consistently maintains SGNA standards of practice. Assesses patient reaction and understanding of procedure/instructions- actively including the patient and family members in teaching.
Participates in the daily operation of the pre-operative environment: Has competent knowledge of all the normal stages of growth and development from Pediatric to Geriatric and delivers patient care appropriately. Performs thorough assessments that are systematic, comprehensive and accurate. Performs assignments in a self-directed manner using time management skills to maximize productivity. Remains positive and focused despite obstacles and setbacks. Assumes responsibility for deficiencies and follows through ensuring medical record is complete. Reviews charts and assessment and reports any abnormal findings to the Physician. Utilizes the appropriate scales regarding fall prevention, skin breakdown, pain management and cultural/educational needs of the patient. Effectively assesses the potential discharge needs of the patient+/or family and acts upon these needs accordingly. Assumes responsibility as room/desk coordinator as assigned. Analyzes situations critically and makes effective clinical decisions and escalates critical situations appropriately.
Job Function: 02. Clinical Skills. Consistently demonstrates competent clinical skills: Performs direct patient care activities in support of patient care delivery and team concept. Provides competent and appropriate nursing care to the population of the unit. Demonstrates knowledge and skill of emergency equipment and procedures. Demonstrates knowledge and skill of emergency equipment and procedures. Demonstrates knowledge of medication administration according to hospital policy. Analyzes situations critically and makes effective clinical decisions which reflect an integration of nursing knowledge and available resources (actual and potential problems). Coordinates, evaluates and completes patient/family teaching. Identifies and reports all risk management issues in a timely manner Recognizes emergency situations and responds appropriately.
Required
QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program.
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse.
- BLS certification.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
- All ASN must complete their BSN studies within five years of their start date.
- Master’s degree in nursing or related field.
- 3+ year of experience in Nursing or relevant area.
- ACLS PALS certification
