Definition of Position: The Nurse Manager coordinates the nursing aspect of patient care for the emergency department utilizing a yearly operational budget in coordination with the DNS for the nursing division. The Nurse Manager is responsible for a working knowledge of the medical/legal and accreditation aspects of nursing for their own department. The Nurse Manager provides direct supervision of the RN's, LPN's, CNA's, Unit clerks in their department. The Nurse Manager works with the shift supervisor to coordinate the activities of the department for the 24 hour period. The Nurse Manager is reports to the Chief Nursing Officer.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

Supports the hospital mission, goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
Must comply with all management standards.
Oversees that the patient care that is provided is based on the nursing process, accepted standards of nursing practice, standards of nursing care, and in compliance with hospital policies, procedures and protocols that describe how patient care needs are assessed, evaluated and met in addition to providing the care.
Demonstrates competence for caring for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric population as well as monitors the patient's behavioral and physiological status. The Nurse Manager ensures that staff are competent to care for neonatal, pediatric adolescent adults, and geriatric populations can monitor behavioral and physiological status.
Ensures that nursing staff perform delegated functions in compliance with hospital and nursing policies and procedures.
Assures the organization of delivery of total patient nursing care in compliance with the hospital and nursing division policies and procedures in a cost-effective manner.
Facilitates the development of educational programs to support the delivery of patient care.
Responsible for sound fiscal management of the department for ensuring sound fiscal practices, including the development, implementation and participation of the annual budgeting cycle, to include operational and capital equipment.
Knowledgeable regarding the current trends in nursing practice and administration.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Education:

Required: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. Evidence of continuing education is appropriate for nurse manager and specific area.

Desired: BSN in nursing, certificate in specialty area

Experience:

Required: Charge nurse or supervisory experience

Desired: Previous manager experience.

Licenses, Certificates and/or Registrations:

Current RN license in the State of Oregon; IV certification, ACLS, PALS, TNCC or Team Oregon, and NIMS training. CPI training.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

Possesses knowledge of the scope and complexity of the patient's age-specific, cultural, physical, and psychosocial well-being served by the hospital. Mathematical computational skills, able to communicate therapeutically. Self-motivated, responsible, role model, well organized.

Other:

Bilingual and/or English Spanish speaking preferred. Ability to work with culturally diverse population.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to 1) perceive the nature of sounds by ear; 2) express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word; 3) perceive characteristics of objects through the eyes; 4) extend arms and hands in any direction; 5) seize, hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with hands; 6) pick, pinch, or otherwise work with fingers; 7) perceive such attributes of objects or materials as size, shape, temperature, or texture; and 8) stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Must be able to lift 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Continuous walking and standing. Must be able to identify, match, and distinguish colors. Rare lifting of greater than 100 pounds. 9) May need to be able to sit for long periods of time.

Working Conditions:

Inside environment, protected from the weather but not necessarily temperature changes. Subject at times to infection, contagious disease, and hazardous materials and equipment. May be subjected to combative patients. Variable noise levels.

40 Hours USD $117,561.04/Yr. USD $192,683.71/Yr. 01-6230 Emergency Center Day
