Summary of Primary Function
Delivers patient care utilizing the nursing process through data collection and assessment, identifies and determines the priority of patient’s problems/needs, and evaluates the process and outcome of nursing care; coordinates, provides and directs patient teaching activities and coordinates the care provided by health team members.

Essential Job Functions
The Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation registered nurse has a major role as practitioner, educator, and consultant with cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation patients. The nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive monitoring and education of clients regarding medications, disease processes, disease management/self-care, exercise treatments, and interpersonal relationships. The nurse will be actively involved in educating clients in the hospital and during the exercise treatment phases. The nurse has an integral responsibility for reporting on patient progress throughout the treatment program. The nurse is responsible for recognizing and providing input regarding emergency situations

Experience

*Minimum of one year of cardiac care experience; 2-3 years preferred.

* Experience in acute care cardiology, prevention and risk-factor intervention, exercise prescription/testing and cardiac rehabilitation. Must demonstrate appropriate knowledge of the principles of growth and development from adult through the geriatric stage of the life span. *Care of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cardiac disease, and one year of critical care experience (strongly preferred).

Certifications

*BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association

*ACLS, American Heart Association

Valid nursing license from the state of practice (required)

Education
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
