DESCRIPTION

The Quality Registered Nurse provides skilled nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures and plays a key role in ensuring quality patient care through clinical initiatives, patient advocacy, and professional collaboration. Primarily based at Jacobs Medical Center, this role requires floating to both La Jolla and Hillcrest, where surgical services include Neurology, Orthopedics, Urology, Plastics, General Surgery, Oncology, Head and Neck, Vascular, Open Heart, and Gynecology. Hillcrest also provides trauma and burn surgeries. Additionally, the Quality Nurse may need to float to Shiley Eye Center, Koman Outpatient Pavilion Pre-Op/PACU, and the La Jolla Procedural Treatment Unit.

This position involves participating in quality of care activities as appropriate to the individual’s position, education, and practice environment. The Quality Nurse assists patients and their families in securing appropriate services while providing peer-to-peer feedback to foster a culture of continuous improvement. Additionally, this role advocates for nursing resources that support unit and organizational goals and contributes to the development, review, and approval of clinical care policies, standards, and guidelines. The Quality Nurse also assists with various projects as needed to enhance department operations and patient outcomes.

Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The Quality Nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing.
RN License issued by the State of California.
BLS certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
A minimum of one (1) year of recent (within the past year) operating room experience.
Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients.
Ability to work well with team members and collaborate effectively. Open and willing to adapt to new approaches to support team goals.
Must have proven independent thinking, decision-making, problem-solving, and prioritizing skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

CNOR
Green Belt Six Sigma certification at time of hire or commitment to get within six (6) months of hire.
Experience serving as a Charge Nurse capacity.
Direct involvement in a Process Improvement Project.
Demonstrates participation in shared governance committees or equivalent.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

10 hour shifts
Monday-Friday
Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call and various locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs.
Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Selected candidate may be hired at the CNIII level pending review and approval by the Nurse Executive Council.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $131,335 - $184,078 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $62.90 - $88.16

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
