JOB SUMMARY

This position requires a clinician with a high degree of knowledge, skills and competence in nursing to provide professional healthcare to Radiation Oncology patients as directed by a licensed physician and in accordance with policies and procedures. The clinician will evaluate and modify healthcare plans as related to specific patient care needs. The clinician will serve as professional liaison between the patient and the healthcare team.

The position includes the ability to perform the following:

Prepares equipment and assists Physician during physical exams. Assists physician with all aspects of the patients initial consultation as well as weekly status checks, routine follow-up examinations, and any emergency visits that are needed.
Follows up on all diagnostic studies that are ordered including proper documentation and obtaining physician signature on test result. Responsible for acquiring test results and notifying said results on all interim reports to the physician and then to the chart.
Manages and coordinates the care of patients in a defined care delivery model using the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Ensures appropriate patient consents and authorizations are obtained for medical treatment.
Provides patient education, procedural instructions, and reinforces physician instructions in person and through telephone contact.
Documentation of medications the patient is currently taking, and document any new medications prescribed by our physicians while under our care.
Maintains open communication with front desk, Infusion Team, Pharmacy, Laboratory, and Nurse Manager as it applies to patient add ons, on-treatment breaks, and changes in treatments.
Delivers nursing interventions to assigned patients that are consistent with stated plan of care while observing and recording signs, symptoms, and behavior of patients in the medical record.
Provides patient triaging and symptom management interventions. Applies knowledge of current treatment modalities to patient care.
Collaborates and communicates effectively with the interdisciplinary team.
Participates in evaluating nursing needs of patients; assesses complex problems affecting patients, provides patient/family psychosocial counseling.
Provides working supervision to other nursing staff and/or other non-licensed medical or office support personnel.
Requires ability to maintain detailed legible and confidential medical records in accordance with established regulations and practices.
Understanding of reimbursement policies to ensure patient access to medication and supplies as well as understanding financial implications of care in todays healthcare environment.

Qualifications

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduate from accredited School of Nursing as evidenced by primary source of verification.

Licensure: Current RN Nursing license in the State of Georgia. Current CPR

Experience: Two years of registered nursing experience required. Two years of Oncology nursing preferred.

Skills:

Must demonstrate clinical knowledge and expertise for designated patient population.
Must demonstrate knowledge and use of lab equipment.
Skilled in art of human relations, problem solving and conflict resolution/negotiation.
Demonstrates ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences clearly and concisely through both verbal and written instruction.
Is self-directed in maintaining and improving competence in nursing practice and clinical outcomes in accordance with current evidence-based practice guidelines
Ability to maintain strong relationship with office staff and work as partners to facilitate his/her practice.
Demonstrates accuracy and an attention to detail.
Knowledge of computer hardware and software applications used in the department.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Works in a busy cancer disease management setting with adult, geriatric, and adolescent patients and families experiencing a wide range of medial problems. Requires flexible work schedule as needed to meet patient needs. Requires sitting, standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Requires full range of body motion including finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions. Requires exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids. Requires working with computers. Requires prolonged periods of times spent on the telephone.
