Position Overview

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for providing direct care to residents in Agape’s Way, Inc.’s group home setting. CNAs work closely with Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and other nursing staff to ensure that residents receive quality care, maintain proper hygiene, take their medications, and are assisted with activities of daily living. The CNA plays a crucial role in supporting residents' well-being and maintaining a safe and healthy environment.

Reports to: Unit Manager

Key Responsibilities

Resident Personal Care

Assist residents with all personal care activities as identified by a licensed health professional, including:

Personal hygiene (bathing, dressing, grooming, etc.)

Ambulation and exercise

Eating and feeding assistance

Physical transfers and mobility assistance

Assist with the use of daily living aids (e.g., wheelchairs, walkers, etc.) and prescribed range of motion exercises.

Environment Maintenance

Maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment for residents, which includes:

Light housekeeping tasks such as straightening bathrooms, sleeping, and living areas.

Washing dishes, laundry, and other tasks to support cleanliness and safety.

Nutrition Support

Provide nutritional support as needed, including:

Measuring and preparing special diets prescribed by a healthcare professional.

Assisting with feeding, if required.

Medication Assistance

Assist residents with the self-administration of medications under the direction of a licensed nurse. Tasks may include:

Bringing medications in their labeled containers to the resident.

Reading the medication label and assisting the resident with opening containers.

Placing oral medication in the resident's hand or a cup for administration.

Applying topical medications and recording the assistance provided.

Prohibited Activities:

CNAs may not administer injections, intravenous medications, or medications requiring clinical judgment.

Health Monitoring & Documentation

Monitor and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure) as directed by nursing staff.

Measure fluid intake and output, and conduct simple urine tests for sugar, acetone, or albumin.

Keep records of personal health care activities and assist with maintaining accurate and up-to-date resident care documentation.

Compliance & Infection Control

Follow Agape’s Way infection control policies, including proper handwashing and safety protocols in accordance with CDC guidelines.

Adhere to agency policies and procedures, maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations.

Resident Support & Observation

Observe and report changes in the resident's condition to the nursing staff, ensuring that any changes in health or behavior are promptly addressed.

Assist in maintaining resident comfort and well-being by creating a supportive environment and fostering positive relationships.

Additional Duties

Perform other duties as assigned by licensed health professionals or the Director of Nursing.

Abide by all Agape’s Way, Inc. policies and procedures, ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents.

Required Qualifications

Must have successfully completed and provide evidence of formal training and certification as a home health aide or certified nursing assistant per state and federal law and regulation.

Training program must meet a minimum requirement of forty (40) hours.

Home health aides/certified nursing assistants must also meet the agency’s expectations as it relates to the competency evaluation program, utilized to confirm that skills learned or tested elsewhere can be transferred successfully to the care of the client in his/her place of residence.

Minimum of 1 year of experience in home healthcare or group home settings is preferred.

Ability to push or pull 50 pounds or more, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Ability to work on holidays and during inclement weather.

Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing.

Possess an actual desire to serve and care for others.

Demonstrated willingness to collaborate openly across barriers and obstacles.

Certified Nurse Assistant license
