Job Summary
Under the supervision of the UCSF Department of Nursing and guided by the policies and procedures, rules and regulations, and bylaws of the UCSF Medical Center, some Nursing Policies, and, Medical Staff Policies, and any unique to inpatient or ambulatory patient services (for those AHPs providing services both in the inpatient and ambulatory environments) this Nurse Practitioner (NP) position is assigned to the Prepare Clinic. This AHP position may perform delegated functions as appropriate to their “scope of practice”. In general, the “scope of practice” includes the management of chronic stable medical conditions, specialty protocols (e.g. chemotherapy), routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and surgical procedures, including operative first assist per approved standardized procedures as identified by the list available on the Medical Staff Office website. The CIDP approved standardized procedures are unique to each person and unlikely to include all SPs on the list. This position may provide inpatient (possible outpatient) care in approved age groups at UCSF Health licensed settings. The AHP has responsibility for the quality of standards of care for a specified patient population and evidences self-direction and accountability in the development of this role within the all UCSF medical center locations. UCSF Health requires all Advanced Health Practitioners (AHP) to be credentialed through its Medical Staff Services Office (MSSO) in order to practice and function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric AHPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Health sites (Parnassus, Mt. Zion, Mission Bay Satellite Clinics, et al). Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 30-60 days and must be completed prior to the first working day.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $100.48 - $130.31 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications
- Previous NP experience (Primary care, surgical, perioperative, critical care, and acute care) at least for 1 year.
- Completed a BRN recognized graduate Master’s degree program as a Nurse Practitioner
- Skilled in physical and psychosocial assessment of families and children from infancy through adolescence Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with other healthcare providers
- Excellent verbal skills
- Credentialed as a Nurse Practitioner at UCSF
- This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
- Able to or already be paneled with Medicare and Medicaid with CMS and in turn eligible for CCS paneling as appropriate for Pediatric environments
- The reappointment process occurs every two years following initial approval of hospital privileges
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual in Spanish/English
- +3 years of NP experience
License/Certification
- California Driver’s license (CDL) if required for position.
- Current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work

- Current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California.
- Complete a BRN recognized graduate master’s degree program as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Obtain an active and/or transferable DEA license to California and provide evidence by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).
- Submit enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by first clinical day. CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments.
- Current AHA BLS as minimum requirement.
- Current AHA PALS as minimum requirement.
- State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice.
- Incumbents with less than 6 months of NP experience will be hired as a Nurse Practitioner 1.
UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
