Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing
- Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Experience / Qualifications
- Current RN licensure in the state of Florida.
- American Heart Association BLS, for Heath Care Provider required.
- American Heart Association ACLS, required.
- American Heart Association PALS, required.
- NIHSS Certification, required.
- Certificate in Emergency Nursing (CEN) preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years clinical nursing experience in an emergency department preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years clinical experience in emergency department triage skills preferred.
- Strong clinical judgement and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage high-stress situations effectively.
- Proficient in electronic medical record (EMR) systems, preferably Epic.
- Knowledge of quality improvement principles and data analysis.
Position Summary
The Triage Registered Nurse Lead is a leadership position responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Emergency Department (ED), with a particular focus on triage and patient flow. A primary focus of a Triage RN is to ensure that the patients who are most in need of care receive it first and that other members of the care team are ready to begin treatments as quickly as possible. This role combines clinical expertise, managerial skills, and leadership abilities to ensure the highest standards of patient care, safety, and efficiency are maintained. The successful candidate will collaborate with the ED management and education team and process and quality improvement initiatives while also serving as the lead triage nurse responsible for optimizing patient throughput and enhancing the overall patient experience.
Clinical Leadership & Management:
- Serve as a leader and resource for the nursing staff, guiding on clinical and administrative issues.
- Support the ED Clinical Manager in planning, implementing, and evaluating department-specific policies and procedures.
- Assist in managing daily staffing needs, including scheduling, assignments.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement evidence-based practices to improve triage processes and patient throughput outcomes.
- Participate in performance evaluations, coaching, and mentoring of nursing staff to promote professional growth.
- Actively engage in quality improvement projects and initiatives to enhance patient care and safety.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the triage team in rapid and accurate assessment of patients to determine acuity levels using the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) scale.
- Oversee patient flow from triage to treatment areas, ensuring timely and efficient patient care.
- Work closely with the charge nurse and ED physicians to prioritize patient care based on acuity and resources.
- Provide direct patient care, especially during peak times or critical situations.
- Serve as a liaison between patients, families, and the healthcare team to ensure clear communication and patient satisfaction.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of triage protocols, emergency care best practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor ED waiting times, patient satisfaction scores, and other metrics to identify areas for improvement.
- Lead debriefing sessions and case reviews to identify opportunities for enhancing triage and ED operations.
Education & Staff Development:
- Assist in the orientation, training, and ongoing education of new and existing ED staff.
- Develop and deliver training sessions on triage protocols, rapid assessment, and emergency nursing skills.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the department.
- Promote adherence to hospital policies, Joint Commission standards, Clinical Practice Guidelines, and other regulatory parameters.

Physical Requirements
This job can be physically demanding at times requiring stooping, sitting, standing, and walking for long periods of time. The team member will need to frequently assist lifting patients and heavy equipment. Must be able to work in a stressful environment, work independently, making sound decisions, detail oriented, alert, and self-motivated. Ability to push/pull up to 40lbs, carry and lift up to 50lbs.
