Assist surgeon, performs operative/invasive procedures. Mentoring, and utilizing the additional education gained through certification will be used to assist peers, perform more efficiently and raise performance. Reports to the Nurse Manager and according to department policies, nursing care standards and professional licensure; as a member of the interdisciplinary team, contributes professional nursing knowledge and skills in the provision and management of care to patients through the nursing process.
Qualifications
License/Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA); Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 1 year - American Heart Association (AHA); Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR); Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 1 year - American Heart Association (AHA)

Responsibilities
Other Knowledge/Skills:
Provides and facilitates competent health care of patients and families in area of practice. Ensures adherence to established standards of care and scope of practice. Acts as preceptor and supports the development of other staff and healthcare students. Responsible for obtaining instrument trays and equipment for procedures. Positions patient for procedure in accordance with patient safety guidelines. Scrub arms and hands and assist the surgical team to scrub and put on gloves, masks, and surgical clothing. Scrubs in for surgical cases with physician. Established knowledge of creating and maintaining a sterile field, scrubbing and assisting within the surgical procedure and the use of specialized beds and positioning equipment, as well as sterilizers and specialized video equipment, navigation, and lasers used with the department. Count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after operation. Prepare patients for surgery, including positioning patients on the operating table and covering them with sterile surgical drapes to prevent exposure. Hand instruments and supplies to surgeons and surgeons' assistants, hold retractors and cut sutures, and perform other tasks as directed by surgeon during operation. Prepare, care for, and dispose of tissue specimens taken for laboratory analysis. Monitor and continually assess operating room conditions, including patient and surgical team needs. Operate, assemble, adjust, or monitor sterilizers, lights, suction machines, or diagnostic equipment to ensure proper operation. Prepare dressings or bandages and apply or assist with their application following surgery. Identifies, selects and coordinates equipment, instruments and supplies required for scheduled procedure with circulating nurse.

Compensation And Benefits
The compensation range for this position is $28.56per hour - $47.7per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
