General Statement of Duties Enhances the educational process through health promotion, health management practices, and accommodations to English Language Learners. Provides direct care and comprehensive coordination of care for students, eliminating barriers and facilitating access, interaction, and access to instruction by promotion of an optimal level of wellness. Provides leadership and consultation to administration, staff, families and community partners in matters pertaining to school health.
Essential Duties - Provides direct student assessment related to state required school registration health records;
- Assesses and triages health needs of new and on-going students including but not limited to physical exams, immunizations, and communicable diseases;
- Oversees point of contact for all navigated students: including but not limited to interaction with medical, nursing (internal and external), ancillary services, and local health departments;
- Interprets health status, medical findings, medical records as necessary;
- Provides direct care including but not limited to first aid, care required by physician order, immunizations, and emergency care needs;
- Provides screening for vision and hearing as necessary;
- Provides education to families, students, and staff. Acts as an information resource;
- Collect and report data - care provided, barriers, medications/immunizations, treatment, etc;
- Assist families and students with referrals to outside resources and care coordination as needed
- Collaborates with providers, health department and internal departments in the management, planning and implementation of care;
- Functions as a contributing member of School Health and Family & Community Engagement
- Demonstrates appropriate use of written and verbal communication
- Demonstrates knowledge of child growth and development
- Serves as a child advocate
- Reports compliance with state laws requiring immunization and exclusion of student with contagious diseases
- Encourages students to be a health-educated person and knowledgeable health consumer
- Improves school nursing, school health and the navigation of the health system as it relates to instruction and education through research and continuing education
- Ability to work independently

- Attends school, community, and professional meetings as requested
- Performs other related duties as assigned;

Minimum Qualifications Must have the ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards; the ability to plan, implement, and evaluate individual needs and medical care; and basic knowledge of computerized medical record systems and use of MS Office or Google suite.
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally, and may assist, move, or restrain students when required to intervene in student safety issues. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, lift, walk, stand, and hear. Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials, blood and/or body fluids, and situations that may require safety precautions and knowledge thereof, and the use of protective equipment.
Must hold a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia, valid Virginia driver's license, current CPR/AED certification and a minimum of 1 year experience working with child and adolescent health care and assessment. Bachelor of science in nursing is preferred and bilingual skills preferred.
Additional Information The minimum salary for this 12-month/ 260-day position is $63,352 (ASN), $69,537 (BSN) or $72,875 (MSN). The annual salary will be prorated based upon the actual work begin date.
