Overview

Under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer, engages in inter and intra-departmental collaboration to insure continuity of patient care and consistent management practices. Administers the Infection Prevention Program throughout Hampstead Hospital and Residential Treatment Facility (HHRTF).

Responsibilities

Manages and role models the delivery of nursing care through the unit-based supervisory role, the hospital-wide supervisory role and management of the hospital as the on-site “person-in-charge”, in collaboration with the Executive-on-call. In that role, identifies and communicates clinical and administrative concerns to unit staff, other nurse coordinators, physicians, executive-on-call, and other departments and, in emergency situations, initiates NH Hospital Emergency Preparedness Plan and Patient Care Services Continuity of Operations Plans. Initiates the development, evaluation, and maintenance of clinical and learning competencies and standards of practice.Contributes to the evaluation and implementation of relevant patient care applications, including, but not limited to development of training tools and technical assistance, development, review and editing of nursing standards, policies, procedures, forms and reports related to work assignments. Acts as an educational and clinical resource to clinical staff in assessment of clinical problems and in implementation of patient-centered solutions, objectives and interventions for treatment plans, Nursing Process, Nursing Theory and Standards of Care as defined by the ANA Scope and Standards of Psychiatric-Mental Health Standards. Acts as a liaison in collaboration with unit staff to provide educational resources to support the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing strategies that will enhance patient outcomes; maintains ongoing awareness of change process and its effect on the patient and staff milieu. Develops, implements and coordinates the Infection Prevention Program as it applies to each of the disciplines: Medical, Facilities, Psychology, Social Work, Rehabilitation, Laundry, Environmental Services, Dietary Services, and Safety. Ensures quality of Infection Prevention practices through education and monitoring of processes related to Infection Prevention and Control throughout the Hospital. Uses evidence-based research, professional guidelines (CDC, APIC, etc.) and scientific research to recommend, implement and monitor policies and procedures for hospital staff. Initiates, participates in and supports hospital-wide nursing research activities. Collaborates with Quality Control, Physician Advisor and other appropriate clinicians and managers to identify, develop and implement risk management programs for Infection Prevention for the hospital. Defines appropriate epidemiologically significant infections and conducts surveillance to identify trends; develops prevention strategies and reports quarterly to Hospital Leadership. Acts as liaison with State and Federal Public Health agencies in regards to Infection Prevention reporting and consultation, as well as for reporting of significant exposures and outbreaks. Analyzes infection prevention and control practices and policies to monitor relevancy and success of Infection Prevention programming, specifically as it relates to the demographic psychiatric population.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with major study in nursing, human services, psychology, or a related field. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Five years' experience as a registered nurse in areas such as ambulatory care, correctional nursing, emergency care, psychiatric nursing, medical surgical nursing, school nursing, pediatrics, or other related nursing specialty as stated on the supplemental job description. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

Required Licensure/Certifications

Current license as a Registered Nurse in New Hampshire.
Current certification in CPR.
Must be certified by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, or by the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying entity in a specialty that is consistent with the job accountabilities and appropriate to the institution in which the vacancy exists, i.e. Nursing Administration or Infection Control.
