The Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center mission is to provide high quality, culturally appropriate healthcare to low-income residents of Washington and Yamhill Counties with a special emphasis on seasonal and migrant farm-workers and to others with barriers to receiving health-care.
Starting Rate: $29.1255/hr +DOE
Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm
Job Summary: The MA Trainer trains new and existing employees in the job role they were hired to perform. This position will work in conjunction with the Quality Assurance Manager, Training Specialist, Clinical Educators, Clinical Program Managers and Director of Quality.
The MA Trainer will train new medical assistants upon hire. When there are no new hire medical assistants, the MA Trainer will perform the standard work of a Medical Assistant 1 and participate in ongoing training initiatives agency-wide. (See Prioritization of Duties below.) The MA Trainer will also train existing employees upon request of the CPM.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Patient (Direct and Indirect) Duties
- Perform standard MA-1 job duties as outlined in the MA-1 job description
Training Duties
- Create and maintain a positive and professional learning environment.
- Set the standards and expectations through example in conduct, work ethic, integrity and character.
- Deliver, project, and motivate trainees through effective training methodologies both in group and individual classroom dynamics.
- Work side by side with new and current employees to train new skills, procedures, and reinforce policies.
- Utilize a variety of the training methodologies, techniques, concepts, learning tools, and practices to ensure maximum effectiveness of training programs.
- Conduct specific training needs assessments to support the design, development and delivery of corporate training programs and strategies.
- Validate the skill of the new employee using assessments provided by the training department.
- Provide feedback to management on the performance of new employees.
- Collaborate with the training team to develop methods, tools, and curriculum for new and ongoing training.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Clinic Expectations
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Handle protected health information (PHI) in a manner consistent with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
Prioritization of Duties
The MA Trainer will prioritize the following duties:
- Train new employees when they are hired by Virginia Garcia while performing standard work
- Train existing employees when needed (new procedures/policy changes, etc.)
- Perform standard work as a medical assistant as outlined in the medical assistant job description
HIPAA Requirements
The MA Trainer will have access to PHI in the course of his/her duties. Applying the minimum necessary standard of HIPAA, the designated record sets to which this employee will have access include: all sections of the medical record, patient demographic information in the practice management system, and incoming records, reports, results, consultations, etc. The MA Trainer is required to read the content of these records only to the extent needed to accomplish the assigned task.

Minimum Qualifications:
- One year of experience as a Medical Assistant I, preferably at VGMHC.
- Up to date certification/licensure (CMA or equivalent).
- Training experience preferred.
