We are growing and have several Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA/MA) opportunities at the Phalen Pediatric Clinic in St. Paul, MN! These are 1.0 FTEs (40 hours/week) positions scheduled Monday - Friday, hours ranging between the hours of 7:30am to 5:30 pm. $2,500 sign on Bonus!
This position is expected to maintain and promote excellent patient care and customer service by supporting the efficient running of the clinic through direct patient care clinical duties and administrative duties. Specific duties are determined by the work setting or patient population served as directed by providers (MD/APP) and nurses but in coordination with the entire patient care team. We organize care around each patient’s condition which requires staff at multiple levels and across many departments to exhibit exceptional teamwork qualities including communicating efficiently and effectively and adopting the behaviors required for high functioning integrated teams.
Compensation & Benefits Information:
The hourly wage for this opportunity is $19.69/hour to $29.53/hour, with a median wage of $24.61/hour, or $20.88/hour to $31.30/hour, with a median wage of $26.09/hour if you are certified. Pay is dependent on several factors including relevant work experience, education, certification & licensure, and internal equity. Hourly pay is just one part of the compensation package for employees. Core Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provides direct support to the providers during patient visits.
- Works as an integral part of the clinical team to provide consistent delivery of quality patient care by collecting pertinent medical information (i.e. medical history, allergies, medications, falls risk, depression) in the patients’ electronic medical record documenting, explaining treatment procedures, preparing patients for examination, assisting providers during exams and collecting and preparing laboratory specimens.
- Accurately evaluates provider orders and is able to effectively communicate with providers when clarifications are needed.
- Provides patient care in accordance with Gillette, Joint Commission and quality standards.
- Communicates patient-related data and information to enhance active and informed decision making by patients, families, nurse colleagues, and other healthcare providers.
- Demonstrates proficient access to Gillette clinical information systems and completes documentation in an accurate, thorough, and timely manner.
- Completes documentation in an accurate, neat and timely manner, effectively detailing the events of the appointment including rooming patients, initial screening (falls, behavior, PROM surveys, etc.), gathering chief complaint, clinical measurement data (Height/weight, vital signs, etc.), obtain electrocardiogram, procedure support (passing instruments, supporting patient, positioning, etc.), pre-procedure instruction phone calls, reinforce, administer immunizations patient/family instructions and details for follow up.
- Maintains efficient patient flow throughout the clinic experience.
- Ensures individual work areas and exam rooms are regularly cleaned, stocked and kept orderly to promote a safe and efficient work area.
- Maintains supplies and equipment throughout the clinic environment.
- Supports the clinical team in patient care coordination and communications.
- Prepares pre-visit documentation for clinic visits.
- Answering Phones
- Assists with communication and correspondence.
- Manages patient information received from outside resources.
- Documents using EMR and other organizational tools.
- Tracks lab/imaging results and notifies provider/nursing as appropriate.
- Obtaining procedure/test reports for procedures performed at outside healthcare facilities.
- Assists scheduling by communicating needs, confirm scheduling of referrals, etc.
Qualifications
Required
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
- Current Medical Assistant certification by either the AAMA (CMA), AMT (RMA) or obtained within 6 months from date of hire.
- Current BLS certification (Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association) or obtain within 90-days of hire.
Preferred
- Experience in a hospital or clinic environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong customer service skills and knowledge of basic medical terminology.
- Demonstrated basic clinic workflow and procedure support skills.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills, which includes ability to communicate professionally with a wide range of professional staff, patients, and families.
- Demonstrated strong computer skills – must be able to learn a variety of program.
