Job Summary
Under the supervision of the UCSF Department of Neurosurgery and guided by the policies and procedures, rules and regulations, and bylaws of the UCSF Medical Center, some Nursing Policies, and, Medical Staff Policies, and any unique ambulatory patient services this Nurse Practitioner (NP) position is assigned to the Neuro-Spine practice. This APP position may perform delegated functions as appropriate to their “scope of practice”. In general, the “scope of practice” includes the management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and surgical procedures per approved standardized procedures as identified by the list available on the Medical Staff Office website. The CIDP approved standardized procedures are unique to each person and are unlikely to include ALL SPs on the list. This position may provide patient care in approved age groups and UCSF Health licensed settings. The APP has responsibility for the quality of standards of care for a specified patient population and evidences self-direction and accountability in the development of this role within the all UCSF medical center locations. UCSF Health requires all Advanced Practice Practitioners (APP) to be credentialed through its Medical Staff Services Office (MSSO) in order to practice and function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric APPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Health sites (Parnassus, Mt. Zion, Satellite Clinics, et al). Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 30-60 days and must be completed prior to the first working day.
Required Qualifications
NP1
- Two (2) to Three (3) years experience in Neurological nursing or Pain management as an RN in an outpatient or inpatient environment
- Possess skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position
- Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations and in varying schedules as outlined
NP2
- Minimum one (1) year of surgical specialties, neurology, and/or pain management experience as an NP in an outpatient or inpatient environment
- Posses skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position
- Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations and in varying schedules as outlined
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $95.69 - $124.10 (Hourly Rate).

Preferred Qualifications
NP2
- One (1) to Two (2) years experience in academic medicine Neurological surgery, orthopedic spine surgery, and/or Pain management
- Possess skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position
- Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations and in varying schedules as outlined
License/Certification
California driver’s license (CDL) if required for position.
Must hold current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work.

- Must hold a current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California
- Must have completed a BRN recognized graduate master’s degree program as a nurse practitioner.
- Must hold current national board certification by first day of work and maintain
- Must hold an active and transferable DEA license to California and have evidence of transfer by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).
- Must have submitted enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by first clinical day. CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments.
- Must hold current AHA BLS and ACLS as minimum requirement
- State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice
UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
