Occupational Health RN/LPN/MA / IHES Maumee / Full Time Under the direction of the Department Director and the Medical Staff, the RN/LPN/MA assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame and provides care to these patients via therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, environment, treatment and modalities and interdisciplinary collaboration. In addition, will provide care and professional excellence by implementing the employee health program of Wood County Hospital and the delivery of basic employee health services. This individual provides superior customer service with the goal of exceeding customer expectations through innovation, initiative and courtesy. MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH: 1. Identifies and assesses patient needs/problems, triages, and documents nursing care supported by assessment data. 2. Assists providers with procedures, exercises nursing clinical skills and administers medications. 3. Obtains proper approval from Managed Care Organizations, Employers, Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, and Third-Party Administrators for further treatment of the patient, specialty referrals, rehabilitation, etc. in order to expedite and facilitate appropriate care. 4. Interprets lab values, responds appropriately, and reports abnormalities to providers and carries out medical orders. 5. Evaluates and modifies plan of care based on observable response of patient. 6. Maintains effective and timely verbal and written communication with clinic and medical staff, employer, Managed Care Organization, Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, Third Party Administrator, and employees regarding the scheduling, treatment, follow-up, status and disposition of each case. 7. Assists in planning for the reintegration of the injured worker into the worksite with provider, employee and employer in returning employee to regular work duties. 8. Coordinates work restrictions, set by the provider, with the employee and employer. 9. Conducts testing and specimen collections including: urine, drug screens, breath alcohol tests, respirator fit testing, pulmonary function testing, audiograms, and vision testing in accordance with regulatory standards and guidelines. 10. Interacts, coordinates, and communicates with clients (employers, Managed Care Organizations, Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, and/or Third-Party Administrator) in regards to work environment, job description, reporting, plan of care, and treatment of patient. 11. Assesses and monitors progress of employee and assists in identifying when further care may be needed. 12. Accesses computer in order to generate charges, track cases, and maintain employer database. 13. Responsible for the assessment, treatment, care of and an understanding of the physical, psychosocial, cultural, and special needs and behaviors of patients within the following age group: teen to adults. 14. Communicates results of physicals, drug screens, and testing to employers. 15. Coordinates activities of department with Director and Medical Director. 16. Answers telephones and schedules patients. 17. Stocks and orders supply and medications. 18. Assists in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures. 19. Maintains and upgrades general nursing and occupational health nursing knowledge and skills through workshops, seminars, and in-services pertinent to Occupational Health, in addition to hospital required programs regarding fire, safety, and infection control. 20. Maintains certification in audiometric and pulmonary function (if applicable) and drug screen and breath alcohol testing. 21. Takes responsibility for meeting and/or exceeding customer needs and expectations. 22. Performs duties with an enthusiastic and positive attitude. 23. Communicates effectively through speaking, writing and listening. 24. Other duties as assigned by Department Director. MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES EMPLOYEE HEALTH: 1. Participates in history and physicals of new employees. 2. Reviews reported employee illnesses. Assesses reported illnesses; makes referrals as indicated. 3. Works closely with Infection Control and the COVID team to assess employees if symptomatic and monitoring submission and completion of temperature/symptom log 4. Establishes and maintains criteria for response to employee health needs including the care of employees who are ill at work. 5. Revises and maintains employee health Quality Improvement activities and reports finding to administration, the Infection Control Committee and other appropriate committees. 6. Participates in environmental safety control. 7. Provides health and safety education to all employees on a regular basis based upon risk. 8. Establishes guidelines for, and provides periodic health exam of employees, as appropriate. 9. Initiates immunizations for eligible employees including follow-up reminders and record-keeping. 10. Provides follow-up on employee infectious disease exposures including the administration of any vaccines or medications indicated, counseling the employee of risks and prevention of spread of disease, monitoring and reporting test results to employee, and assuring follow-up testing. 11. Maintains employee health records on all employees. 12. Organizes and scheduled fit testing clinics and trains instructors. Keeps log of employees fit tested and type of mask fitted to wear. Contacts employee and/or supervisors of incomplete testing. 13. Provides basic Infection Control guidance to staff in the absence of the infection Control Coordinator. EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Licensed RN in the state of Ohio; previous clinical experience in acute care/Emergency department or Occupational health and/or Infection Control a plus; CPR certified; CAOHC Hearing Conservation certification not required but preferred; NIOSH Spirometry certification not required, but preferred. This person shall demonstrate good verbal and written skills as well as positive inter-personal skills.
