The Certified Nursing Assistant II (CNA II) plays a critical role in providing compassionate and high-quality care to children with critical needs. Under the supervision of licensed nurses, the CNA II directly assists with daily care activities, clinical tasks, and administrative responsibilities, ensuring the safety, health, and dignity of the individuals supported. This position requires a deep sense of empathy, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset to effectively support nursing staff and contribute to a positive care environment. By adhering to the scope of practice defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, the CNA II delivers essential care services, helping to improve the quality of life for the individuals and families served.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Report any changes in the condition of individuals supported to the Nurse immediately.
- Accurately document on flow sheets, charts, notes, and other records in a timely manner.
- Measure and record vital signs, notifying the Nurse of any changes or concerns.
- Administer medications, including gastrostomy tube feedings, as delegated by licensed nurses and per physician orders.
- Monitor oxygen administration, check oxygen saturation levels, and report findings to licensed nurses.
- Perform colostomy care in accordance with the care plan.
- Assist individuals with dressing/undressing, hygiene, and toileting needs.
- Provide safe and appropriate lifting, turning, moving, positioning, and transferring of individuals to and from beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, or lifts.
- Actively participate in the nursing report and collaborate with nurses and administrative staff to ensure the safety and health of supported individuals.
- Assist with transporting individuals to and from appointments, activities, and social programs, both within and outside the center.
- Fax orders to the pharmacy and completed lab results to appropriate doctors.
- Assist in ordering OTC stock and supplies, scheduling appointments, and maintaining organized filing systems.
- Maintain confidentiality of all care-related information to ensure the rights and privacy of individuals supported.
- Deliver nursing care with respect to individual privacy and dignity.
- Perform additional duties as assigned and enhance service quality.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Completion of an approved CNA II training program.
- Active CNA II certification in good standing with the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
- Previous experience working with children with critical needs is highly preferred.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Compassionate, patient, and detail-oriented.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Regularly required to lift 30 lbs.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs.
- Must be able to pull a minimum of 25 lbs.
- Must be able to squat, kneel, crawl, crouch, climb, and stoop.
- Must be able to regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Required to regularly stand and walk.
- Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in CPR from the floor level requiring to work on hands, knees, bending, standing, and lifting.
- Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.
