RN Acute- Pediatric Transport Team

As a member of the interdisciplinary team, contributes professional nursing knowledge and skills in the provision and management of care to patients and their families, specializing in the pediatric patient population. Maintains a practice environment that reflects the ANA Code for Nurses, Philosophy of Nursing at UnityPoint Health within the structure of the Professional Nurse Practice Model and in collaboration with other care givers.
Provides patient care defined by the scope of practice for a nurse in Iowa and as authorized by the LifeFlight Medical Director. Participate in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with other health care team members. Collaborates with physicians and other health care workers to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care while maintaining standards for professionalism in the clinical setting. Will perform duties in the hospital setting, out of hospital setting, aircraft and ground ambulance.

Responsibilities
- Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate teaching and making the necessary referrals to provide continuity of care.
- Develops an individual plan of care using a collaborative approach with the patient/family and health care team.
- Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient’s care.
- Delivers high quality care utilizing the nursing process while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills of the specialty required on assigned unit in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care.
- Utilizes holistic approach (considering diversity, biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients and families served in the assigned service area.
- Delegates and provides direction for other healthcare team members within their scope of practice and holds them accountable for their involvement in the plan of care.
- Utilizes critical thinking in developing nursing interventions while maintaining responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients.
- Assess and chooses teaching strategies appropriate to the patient’s and their families’ age specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn and level of comprehension.
- Consults appropriate resources within the hospital to provide specialized education.
- Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Requirements

Education:
Graduate of accredited RN nursing program
BSN degree
Experience:
- Minimum 3-5 years full-time pediatric emergency or pediatric critical care experience.
- BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP
Pediatric intensive care experience highly desired.
License(s)/Certification(s):
Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa.
Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire.
Approved Trauma Course (required upon hire)
CFRN or C-NPT (required within 2 years of hire)
Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
Work may require travel to other UPH facilities our bases of operation. May drive a UPH vehicle, rental or own vehicle.
Ability to perform functions of the job in all conditions of the environment including weather extremes, noise, vibration and aviation (fumes, flicker, altitude, turbulence).
