Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college with a bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN), and clinical work experience. Master’s degree in nursing preferred. Five years of clinical nursing work experience, preferably in a rural hospital. At least three years experience as a nursing department manager or team leader experience. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for the direction, scheduling, and coordination of the personnel in the HCCH Nursing Department. Ensures that services are of the best quality, are cost-contained, and are carried out in an expeditious manner, in accordance with the CMS Conditions of Participation for a Critical Access Hospital. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in Quality Assurance Process Improvement (QAPI) activities. Formulates budget and ensures productivity standards are met. Maintains effective physician and intradepartmental relations. Maintains compliance with regulatory agency requirements.
In addition to managing and directing nursing services, the incumbent also functions as the senior manager/director for several of the Harrison County Community Hospital District clinical services departments including pharmacy, quality, therapy services, social services, risk management, utilization review, stroke, cardiac/pulmonary rehab, inpatient, emergency department, outpatient specialty clinic and surgical services. Through the direction of various services department managers, the CNO is responsible for coordinating competent, compassionate, and cost-effective patient care to the highest quality standards.
As member of the senior team, the CNO should provide vision for strategic imperatives throughout the organization.
Works collaboratively to ensure that high quality, competent and coordinated patient care is provided by Harrison County Community Hospital District.
Maintain high standards other staff members can follow; inspire and encourage others to uphold the best practices when handling patients; work toward a conducive environment for clinicians by developing strategies aimed at creating collaboration.
Ability to work in fast-paced environment, proficient with multi-tasking.
Ability to make decisions and initiate action under stress in critical situations.
Receives and responds to patient inquiries via telephone, patient portal, other methods.
Effective verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills
Performs patient education about diagnoses and treatments to patients’ level of education and preferred method of teaching.
Aids in identifying methods of improving patient care practice and workflow; communicates with supervisory staff.
Working knowledge of computerized medical software; ability to quickly learn new technologies and changes in electronic medical record (EMR) workflow.
Follows all Harrison County Community Hospital District and departmental policies and procedures.
