Nevada Board of Nursing License Renewal Requirements: 3 Steps
The steps below are for nurses who are renewing their Nevada licenses. If you’re an out-of-state nurse looking to practice in Nevada, you must apply for licensure by endorsement or examination.
Step 1: Determine Your Renewal Deadline
You must ensure you renew your license on time to avoid extra fees or other complications. The deadlines are listed below:
- RN/LPN: Every 2 years on the nurse’s birthday
- APRN: Every 2 years on the APRN’s birthday
- CNA: Every 2 years from date of certification
Step 2: Complete Your Continuing Education Requirements
Implementing continuing education requirements helps ensure healthcare workers are up to date on their current knowledge and changes in the industry.
- RN/LPN: 30 hours of continuing education on nursing topics
- APRN: 15 hours of continuing education and at least 1,000 practice hours over the past 5 years in addition to the requirements for their RN renewal
- CNA: 24 hours of continuing education on CNA topics and 40 practice hours over the past two years
RNs and LPNs must dedicate four hours of continuing education to cultural competency and another four hours must be dedicated to bioterrorism. APRNs must allocate two hours to suicide prevention every four years, and another two hours to substance abuse during each renewal cycle.
New graduates do not have to complete continuing education aside from the one-time bioterrorism requirement, from which CNAs are exempt.
