Intely@Sea SME Profile – Rachael Acker

Intely@Sea is a five-day cruise out of Miami, Florida to the Bahamas, taking place May 9 – 13, 2022 in honor of Nursing Professionals Week! We are so excited to be a part of this celebration. It is going to be a trip to remember! 

Joining us on the cruise will be prominent nursing professionals who are subject matter experts and leaders in the nursing world. Some of them will be teaching courses on board for CEU credits. Each of them will be available to network and share their stories with you! Be sure to read up on each of these pioneers in nursing and follow them on social media as well.

Meet Rachael Acker

Rachael Acker, BS is the Vice President of Design Strategy at Mad*Pow in Boston, Massachusetts. Her professional background is in computer science, human factors, UX, design, and entrepreneurship. 

Rachael is a creative problem solver focused on humanizing AI solutions to create transformative user experiences. She is a systems thinker with long-term vision, a usability researcher, and a tactical rapid prototyper of new products.  

Rachael has been a volunteer with SONSIEL for over two years. She will be joining Intely@Sea to teach a course for nursing professionals on problem solving strategies. Read on for a Q&A with Rachael, where she shares her thoughts on nursing, education, and more! 

Q&A

IntelyCare: What does Nursing Professionals Week mean to you? 

Rachael: “To me, Nursing Professionals Week represents a time during which we can create a common language between design and nursing.” 

IntelyCare: What does education mean to you? 

Rachael: “I feel that education is something you do all the time, until you die. It is a lifelong and constant pursuit.” 

IntelyCare: What do you think everyone should understand about nursing professionals? 

Rachael: “We should never take nursing professionals for granted!”  

IntelyCare: What do you think every nurse should understand about the importance of self-care? 

Rachael: “Self-care is a right, not a luxury.” 

IntelyCare: What will your Intely@Sea course will cover? 

Rachael: “My Intely@Sea course will cover HOPE – a pragmatic strategy for designing solutions that matter. This approach includes divergent and convergent design methods and practical approaches to creative problem solving.” 

IntelyCare: Is there anything else you would like to share with us? 

Rachael: “I am so excited to be able to share tools and learnings that I believe will exponentially increase the value of nursing professionals in the healthcare system during Intely@Sea.”
