Each of them will be available to network and share their stories with you! Be sure to read up on each of these pioneers in nursing and follow them on social media as well.

Meet Joshua Littlejohn

Joshua Littlejohn, MPH, MSN, RN, CSPO is the Product Manager of Nurse Experience at IntelyCare. Prior to joining the IntelyCare team, Joshua served in a wide variety of nursing and public health roles, in addition to working in software product management.

Joshua leverages over 10 years of experience across different healthcare ecosystems to create products and experiences that bring value to patients, providers, and communities. He has a particular passion for products that not only keep us healthy, but also foster better connections between people.

Joshua began his career in healthcare as a bedside nurse at Tulane Hospital in New Orleans. He holds two master’s degrees from the University of Pennsylvania, in Healthcare Leadership and Public Health. Since 2015, he has focused his work on enhancing the delivery of home and community care using technology. His diverse background in bedside nursing, public health, clinical informatics, and technology has provided a solid platform on which he has been able to create a range of products. These include communication toolkits used by community health workers in rural Africa, cloud-based data visualization products for multi-hospital health systems, and consumer-facing digital healthcare platforms delivering virtual caregiving to families and clinicians under DaaS and SaaS models.

Joshua has worked at all phases of the product life cycle and loves diving in to work with different stakeholders across the many silos in healthcare. He approaches problem-solving and product development with an empathetic and people-centered mindset, and strives to be a civically minded global citizen (he has lived in five countries and traveled to 25+ others!).

Q&A

IntelyCare: What will your Intely@Sea course will cover?

Joshua: “My course will be centered around the role of nursing in technology development, specifically how nurses can transition into roles in technology and business.”

IntelyCare: What does Nursing Professionals Week mean to you?

Joshua: “Nursing Professionals Week is a celebration of nursing professionals wherever they work and in whatever industry they find themselves in. No matter if they are at the bedside, or one level removed from it, this is a week to spotlight all the value that we create for patients and healthcare systems across the board.”

IntelyCare: What does education mean to you?

Joshua: “Education is a tool to understand how the world works and how to effect change in your own way. It helps make sense of the systems and information that are all around us and provides one of many paths to developing creative solutions.”

IntelyCare: What do you think everyone should understand about what it means to be a nurse?

Joshua: “We come in many varieties, but every nurse shares a desire to ‘do good’ no matter where and how we practice. From the bedside, to the benchtop, to the boardroom, and beyond, nurses add value wherever they work.”

IntelyCare: What do you think every nurse should understand about the importance of self-care?

Joshua: “At its core, nursing holds the idea of shared humanity and a respect for connectedness between people. Part of that is recognizing the human nature of nurses – not super-human – and that we all need time, space, and resources to care for ourselves the same as we care for others, so that we can continue to be a strong connection for others in that web.”

IntelyCare: Is there anything else you would like to share?

Joshua: “Healthcare is a huge industry and clinical care is only one of many ways nurses can add value. There are many other career paths open to nurses, but we must be brave in pushing our visions forward and demonstrating our value to others if we are to change things on a systemic level. Advocate for yourself as fervently as you do for your patients.”
