Nurse Practitioner Resume Writing Tips and Sample
Looking for your next nurse practitioner (NP) role? Whether you’re a seasoned NP or newly graduated, a great nurse resume can set you apart as you’re applying to jobs. This is your chance to show off your skills and experience to hiring managers, so spend some time getting it right. To help guide you, we’ve got some tips, as well as a sample nurse practitioner resume.
A resume, unlike a NP cover letter, is a place to list your previous work experiences and achievements. This is likely your first introduction to a hiring manager, so make it count. They might be sifting through a stack of other applicants, so you want to make it easy to see why you’re the ideal candidate for an interview for NP jobs.
Writing Tips for Great Nurse Practitioner Resumes
A well-crafted resume shows off your qualifications and reflects your professionalism and attention to detail. Here are our top tips for writing a great NP resume:
Be Unique
If you’re applying to multiple roles, you’ll want to create a nurse practitioner resume template. But it’s best to customize that template for each job you apply to. Use the language and skills in the job description to show why your experience makes you the perfect candidate for the role. For instance, in some states, a nurse practitioner may be referred to as a certified registered nurse practitioner (CRNP), so mirror that language on your resume.
Structure for Easy Reading
For hiring managers and HR professionals, sifting through resumes is time-consuming. Don’t bury important information in long paragraphs. Use bullets, lists, and shorter paragraphs where possible. You might also want to include your license number for easy look-up.
Check Out Comparison Resumes
Even though the content of your resume will be different, it’s okay to lean on guidelines. Most resumes follow a similar flow. You can use our outline below, or check out our other nurse resume examples for inspiration.
Update as You Go
If you haven’t updated your resume in several years, you might forget about achievements or skills you’ve gained. In general, it’s best to update your resume every year or so, even if you’re not planning on switching jobs.
