Job Responsibilities

Providing comprehensive RN care for patients with dual diagnoses undergoing treatment for substance use disorders
Administering oral, intramuscular (IM), and subcutaneous (SQ) medications, including those for withdrawal management
Reconciling medication at the end of each shift and accurately maintaining logs of distribution for controlled substances in accordance with regulations and state laws
Conducting nursing assessment at time of intake, assisting with searches and observed urine testing
Completing hourly rounds, withdrawal assessment scales (COWS, CIWA, etc.), and vital sign monitoring multiple times per shift
Coordinating behavioral health and substance abuse care with external medical providers
Maintaining accurate documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
Guiding patients through detoxification per physician's orders and providing patient education
Collaborating with the physician, nurse practitioner, and treatment teams to develop treatment plans
Utilizing de-escalation strategies to manage challenging behaviors effectively
Prioritizing staff safety by responding calmly and professionally to crises
Fostering therapeutic relationships with patients through empathy and respect
Responding promptly and effectively to medical emergencies
Facilitating seamless communication and transitions of care during shift changes and across departments

Qualifications and Skills

Current New Hampshire Registered Nurse (RN) certification (will accept multi-state license where applicable)
Successful completion of an accredited nursing program
At least 12 months of nursing experience in a detox facility or substance abuse treatment environment
Experience administering PO, SQ, and IM medications in a behavioral health and substance abuse treatment setting
Ability to identify and address symptoms of substance withdrawal
Completion of an annual physical and a 12-panel drug screen
Successful completion of a background check that includes an attestation of no history of arrests or legal issues beyond the scope of the background check
Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification from the American Heart Association
Successful completion TB 2-Step testing
Ability to work under minimal supervision and to exercise strong critical thinking skills and sound professional judgment in dynamic environments
Experience with EHR systems and knowledge of HIPAA requirements
